Add Click-to-call to your blog for 3c/minute

by Paul Heath on March 6, 2010

This is a great service from Twilio.com – they do an excellent job of making this a relatively easy integration task for the functionality you’re getting. If you want more sophistication, you can write some code to develop custom call center apps.

Sample Scenario

A prospect or customer comes to your blog/site and wants someone to call them ASAP (known as “click to call”). The Twilio plugin can be placed on your site, which lets the user enter their phone number.

The Phone - Its For You!

Twilio will then attempt to locate you (the service provider) – when that connection has been made and you are on the line,  Twilio then calls the customer and connects you, guaranteeing  the customer a live person. All calls and click-to-call requests are logged and the calls can be recorded (for an additional fee).

Additional benefits are:

  • You are not required you to put your phone number on the web.
  • You will know that someone is calling via your blog or site, which means you could create a separate ring tone for “blog or website calls”, since those are coming via Twilio.
  • Cost is 3c/minute, no setup and no commitments.

To get started, download the Twilio WordPress plugin.

Dear…

Thanks for maintaining such a nice blog.

I am following up to see if you can review or at least try service from InVox (http://www.invox.com).

InVox (Intelligent Voice) allows you to configure a fortune-500 phone system in 5 mins without custom coding with Speech Recognition. We won the Best of Show at IT Expo for their intuitive do-it-yourself web 2.0 designer.

The system is simple with drag and drop interface. Its web based Visio allowing you to create voice mashups. Out of the box, Invox integrates with CRM (Salesforce, Sugar, Zoho), database, web services, payment gateways, online calendars, surveys, auto answering service, diaster notifications, locators and much more.

Our showcases include integrations with Twitter (say and leave your twee), Yelp, Salesforce, Yahoo and others.

Invox is also offering a free PBX with call forwarding to Skype and Google Talk.

I would like to schedule a time with you to showcase a demonstration of the system. As a token of appreciation, I will be willing to provide you with a free phone system with 250 mins each month for your company.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Best

Hi Paul,

Thank you for recommending the Twilio Click-to-Call WordPress plugin to your readers. It was released relatively recently, and we welcome any feedback on how we can make it better – just drop us a line at help@twilio.com

We also offer a web services API for making/receiving phone calls and SMS messages, and we can connect business owners with developers who are familiar with our platform. If there’s any way we can help bring custom click-to-call solutions into existence, let us know!

Cheers,
Danielle @ Twilio

One way to improve the plugin is to add some styling to it if that does not already exist, e.g. be able to specify the width/height of the input field, so that it fits cleanly wherever you decide to place it (e.g. Right Rail)
Regards
Paul
